Electricity’s base or root word is electric and it is derived from the Greek word “elektron” meaning amber. Early evidence of electricity was noted about 600 B.C. Greek
philosopher, Thales of Miletus, is thought to be the first person to
have witnessed the attractive properties of amber. [A hard,
translucent, fossilized resin]. Its color is yellow, orange or brownish-yellow and is used for making jewelry and other ornamental objects. It was found that by rubbing amber against fur cloth, feathers or particles of straw would attract to it.
